From the supplier: A US General Accounting Office survey found that up to 33% of applicants for individual health insurance are rejected because of preexisting conditions. Some insurers will attach riders to individual policies excluding preexisting conditions such as glaucoma or a knee injury. Others will cover the conditions, but charge high premiums. Twenty-five states have high-risk pools to cover otherwise uninsurable persons, but they charge about 50% more than standard rates.
